• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'd like to ask for some help with programming Motorola Alpha Elite Flex Pagers

I've done it before but the laptop i used in the past went to laptop heaven so i'm trying to get it up and running on a 'new' one.

The one i'm trying to use is
Compaq Presario 1200
Win98 SE [DOS Version 4.10.2222]
AMD-K6 processor
124mb RAM

I copied the PPS (the same one that i used in the past) R01.02.00 to the C: and attempted to run it in DOS. I get an error when i try to run the setup, "ERROR!! You must run SETUP from the floppy disk drive on which SETUP is located." I tried copying the files from the folder directly to the C: but this didn't improve anything.

My guess is that i'm missing something in DOS (I confess, i'm not fully DOS literate) that is holding me back.

I have the programming jig and, as i've said, i had it working on an old laptop.

I have enjoyed tinkering with my work-issued pagers and especially combining two that i would otherwise have to carry into just one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Good Day-

You must use an old and slow PC or laptop running DOS only. Your PC is too fast and ypu can not run a DOS window sucessfuly. Look on Ebay or visit a local computer shop and see what "junk" they have around. It should cost less than $50 with a clean install of DOS.
Have fun.....

"You must run SETUP from the floppy disk drive on which SETUP is located."

You must run the install from the distribution Diskette file even of you moved the unpacked files over from the old box. I used a virtual diskette driver installed it on a Windows 7.0 system and it's been running fine even with my IOGear USB to Serial adapter...

To start with I would try the one you have. It may be too fast but close to what you want. Also... the importand part is ti boot to DOS and NOT use a DOS windows in Windows.

I use a very old Dell laptop witha 486 processor for my programming. Use it on pagers, and older HTs like Saber and System Saber.

Have fun and I hope your idea works out:)

Ken

Thanks Ken!

How slow do you recommend? Is there a processor i should keep an eye out for?

Thanks for the help.
