• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello everyone, a friend who worked for Motorola gave me an APX7000 a few years back and it's been sitting in my desk since then. I started to play with it the other day but I have no idea what it is capable of or programmed for. I can't seem to learn much about it other than it doesn't have the large sticker in the battery slot and only two small barcodes on either side of the battery slot reading MNUR1001B 38/09 etc...I don't want to write the whole code not knowing if it's important for anything. He gave it to me with 3 batteries, only one of which works and a charger. When I turn it on it says Noncommercial. Any info would be greatly appreciated including its value? Thank you

Sounds like you have a lab version of the APX which runs a modified version of the XTS5000 software. You wont be able to use that radio for anything other then to hold papers down.

How do you know that? The model decodes correctly...without knowing the Host/DSP/Secure Ver you wont' know if its a Dev radio or not.

"Sounds like" is what I said. The lack of any labels other then the barcode and hardware number leads me to believe it was a dev radio. There are several other posts on this forum that back up this theory. The other reasoning is the likelihood of a friend giving him a $7k radio. My agency needs some friends like that.

I appreciate the responses, I would probably just end up selling it if it was useful for anything. Is ther rant way I can tell if it is a development radio vs a good one? When turned on, the top display says Marine...I'll take a closer look at it when I get home to see what else the displays say.

Edit: You do not accept PMs. Take a picture of the bar code(s) underneath where the battery slides in. Also, when you turn it on, press the button under neath the PTT five times and let us know what the numbers are.

There are only two small stickers, one on each side, one has a barcode and read MNUR1001B and on the other side it reads MNUR1001B 38/09 CAI0901KN7. When I press the button under the PTT 5 times it does nothing

Well that just means it's not programmed with 16 channels in that zone. No big deal.

I'd be interested in that radio, if I had any money to spend right now. But I don't.

I know, it's a dev radio, but for my purposes it'd be fine.

It would probably be useless since you don't have the software to program it. Not to mention the firmware is probably buggy and some features don't work as expected. These radios are very rough and have no use in the real world. They're development radios for a reason.

You would be surprised how many of these radios are out there and in use in the real world.. Yes the software is out there to program these..

I don't believe I would be surprised. Seeing all the crap show up on eBay and Facebook sell/swap sites you can see all the junk pass through the filters. Software might be out there but I'm sure someone will try with the regular APX Suite. Then their either SOL or know where to look for it. Best to put that radio on the shelf for display only. No one just gives someone a completely good APX and lets it sit on a desk for over a year, not yet anyway.

Come on, do you think I couldn't come up with something? ME?

Well, it IS possible that you don't know me from Adam. But let's just say I've been around a bit, when it comes to radio hacks and interesting stunts pulled with Moto equipment. I've been at it for a very long time. I've developed a few popular hacks and tricks that are in widespread use today, some 20 years after I cooked them up.

I don't much care if that APX just looks good on the shelf. If it was dead it'd still be welcome in my radio museum.

Haha! Elroy Jetson = radio legend! I've learned everything I know about Sabers from reading his posts since 2001(?). Long before APX was a twinkle in Motos eyes...

Don't get too cocky now. I never said you don't know what you are doing but the software isn't readily available for everyone.

Congratulations on your accomplishments.

I was thinking this radio is perfect for someones museum. OP hasn't replied. I wonder what the status of the radio is. Is it a brick or a hacked up XTS?
