Hi All,

Hoping someone can help. I am thinking about purchasing a CDM 1250 radio for my car. However the radio comes with a permanent antenna where I would have to drill holes into the trunk of my car for it to fit. Where can I find one that I can is just magnetic and can remove anytime needed and that is at a relatively reasonable price?

You speak of drilling like it's a bad thing. Going with a commercial/professional grade radio, why not go with a commercial/professional grade installation?

Just prefer not to put holes into body of vehicle unless I have to

You should. It works better and it looks better.
I understand not wanting to drill holes, but you should really consider it.

However, magnetic mount antennas will work. Pick an NMO mount from the page that Ramal121 linked to. You'll want a "Mini-UHF" connector on the end of the cable to match the jack on the rear of the radio. Do -not- use adapters to make an incorrect connector fit.
You'll need to chose an NMO base antenna that matches the frequencies you'll be using. You didn't list what band your radio was on, so kind of hard to help you, but it's important you get the right one.

Just be aware that running the coax cable for the mag mount through a window or door is going to eventually damage it. Not a good solution for long term use.

Yeah, you'll need to pick an appropriate antenna. Since you won't be working over the entire 403-470MHz band, you can pick a more specific antenna. Depending on exactly what frequencies you need and what your local coverage needs are like would help.

A basic UHF 1/4 wave antenna works pretty well. About 6 inches long and about $15.00.

You can buy a magnetic base for the antenna that is with the radio if it is a NMO mount antenna.

Worth noting, due to the mounting location, one will probably want a stacked collinear such as a 5/8 over 5/8 wave or 5/8 over 1/2 wave. A quarter wave will work okay, but will catch some shadowing from the passenger cabin (may not be an issue for what the setup is being used as).
