If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Motorola HT1250 128 conv unit with black rubber seal (first generation unit) with a blank display. The green back light works but just no readout on screen.

Any ideas on a possible quick fix to resolve or a list of parts including prices and labor charges needed to repair..?

Thanks

Guessing is not a good way to trouble shoot a radio. There can be
quite a few reasons the display does not function properly.

Did you take the radio apart and was it working fine just prior?

I ask because you were looking for a refurb kit in another thread.

No this is a completly seperate issue. The display appears to have been blank for some time. I checked all the basics, hooked it up to cps to see if it was a setting issue which it is not since I re-wrote radio from a working display same model code plug.

I took it apart and cleaned and reattached both main ribbon cables that go into circuit board and still nothing. The screen lights up green but still blank, no display.........

The wider of those two ribbon cables is for the keypad/display functions.

Make sure its inserted properly in that multipin connector and the plastic
securing snap is also tight on both sides of the ribbon cable. This is a
common display problem. If that is not the problem then it is likely to
be the display itself.

If all else fails, smack it with the palm of your hand. Seriously. We had lots of older HT1250s with displays going out, but they never went totally out. Holding the radio with the display in your palm and smacking the back of the radio (battery) always worked wonders for us, lol.

Yeah, I'm all about saving the taxpayers money, lol.

Probably 8 out of 10 first gen HT1250s with blank screens I have dealt with have been brought back to life, so to speak, with the right touch.

Thanks for the help guys, I will recheck both ribbon connections and try the "touch" technique.

If all else fails, does any have a list of the part(s) numbers needed from motorola and a price for each to replace the screen.....?
