• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Is is possible to reprogram a HT750 to use on 2m 144 or 70cm 440mhz? Where would I start to make this happen if possible?

Yes.
The "K" models cover 136 - 174MHz.
The "R" models cover 403 - 470MHz.

If you have one of those, then you can program it for its respective amateur radio frequencies.
You'll need the Pro Series CPS software and a programming cable. Getting legal copies of Motorola software will require buying it from Motorola. Aftermarket programming cables can be found online.

Are those USB programming cables legit or a scam? I have the CPS software.
My “scam” cable which I purchased on E-Bay for $17 works fine, & has never been a problem. I don’t mind using a $17 cable for a $50 radio. But for my XTS, or APX radios, I use a factory cable.

Sorry I wasn't saying they are scams, I was asking if the radios really connect and work with the CPS via USB. given how cheap in price they the cables are and probably from china (not that i'm against buying from china).

Thank You for sharing the fact you have used one, I will probably pull the trigger on the buy button soon now.

Kawamall seems to have those difficult parts you need when you need them. I've bought several things from them with no problem.

A note about programming cables: I use USB cables on my three portables, a 1250, a 500, and a 600, with no problem. I used to use a USB cable on my CDMs, until one day they just stopped programming on one of them. Initially, I tried everything, including buying a used laptop with a different, and older, software on it, to no avail. Other on-line programmers seemed to have the same symptoms asking for help, and the few responses they received got a little too deep into the weeds to try and correct it. One or two replies mentioned some type of inherent flaw in programming with USB cables over time, recommending an OEM one.

I finally broke down and bought an OEM cable and it worked correctly "right out of the box" on all the CDMs.

To save your sanity, make it a point to buy an OEM programming cable at some point, even if your USBs aren't giving you a hard time.....yet.

The only issue I've come across is that some radios don't play nice with certain versions of prolific. Not a cable issue but a driver issue. However, I've never had a problem with a FTDI cable/driver. They work flawlessly across the board.

I have never had an issue with them. I have several of the Chinese "Maxton" branded cables and they've always worked well for me, both /\/\ radios, Vertex, and Kenwood. As with everything else, your mileage may vary. If you want to buy /\/\ OEM cables, they aren't really that expensive. I was kind of surprised when I first got on MOL how reasonably some of them were priced.
