    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I am familiar with the repeater-builder website and that is discusses the use of Motorola Micor and the GE Master II for conversion into repeaters for the amateur bands....

I was wondering if anyone within the group has done/used either for a gmrs repeater.

I'm looking for feedback about the use of either of these, more specifically towards the Motorola Micor.

I currently have a few repeaters on air and am interested in the possibility of doing a micor conversion into a repeater for the gmrs band. The one I have converted is already in use for the ham band and I'd like input about doing one for the gmrs band

Simple. Any commercial repeater will work in the GMRS band. Both my MICOR repeaters came out of public safety service. Hardest part was ordering the xstals and tuning the duplexer. Both are slated to be replaced this year with programmable units that will allow 12.5 Khz spacing.

I am more familiar with the Master II and MVP conversions but both the Motorola Micor and GE Mastr II/MVP conversions are supposed to be excellent if they are already working before the conversion is done and in fact I just finished a low power MVP GMRS repeater and it works great but not as flexible as a programed
radio since they are a rock bound radio.

If you have a working Micor or Mstr II, then you should have no problems putting it (them) on GMRS.

The GMRS frequencys are within the working range of most normal UHF equipment.

The only problem I can see about this is, Mstr II use's crystals, and if you have the correct DOS based software and cable for the Micor.

You can send the channel elements from the Mstr II to International Crystal and have them change to your frequency. +/- $50.00 each

Micor is a channel element machine, no software programming. I've put one Micor repeater on GMRS and several GE Master IIs and prefer the GEs. Interfacing a repeater controller (CSI 3200) was easier for me and the GEs have proven to be very reliable.

I had a buddy convert a Mstr II mobile radio to a light duty repeater years ago. Turned the power down, & it has been trouble free for years. I still have about 7 spare radios in case I needed to swap parts, but that original radio is still going strong.

Bottom line is, if the radio is in good working condition to start with then it will work just fine as GMRS instead of on the commerical frequency.
