• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I was hoping to get frequency’s that are like 150mhz but if it can only do 800 I would just put some basic frequency for communication between my 3 radios I got

Do you have a license for any 800 frequencies? If not then you can’t just transmit on any random frequency you pick out of the air.

Don't overlook the old Windows computer needed to program it if you ever find the programming software. At best, Windows XP is the fastest OS that it might accept.

There is nowhere you can legally use that radio without a license. I wish you no luck in finding what you want. You'll probably end up interfering with public safety with your lack of professional radio knowledge. Based on your other posts, you should probably stop buying radios you don't know how to operate until you gather the knowledge of how to legally use them. There is coordination to prevent interfering with licensed users such as police, fire, EMS, and other licensed business users. Radio is not a free-for-all where you can just transmit wherever you want.

You should probably stick with license free radios like the ones sold at Walmart. If you have legitimate needs for farming or business purposes then consult a local professional radio shop to help you get what you need. Perhaps that is your own licensed frequency or perhaps the shop has licenses they will sell you radios to operate on.

About the only legal use possible for that radio at this point is to use it to listen to the 800 MHz conventional mutual aid frequencies, which are very rarely used anyway. So rarely used that I've literally never heard them used other than for technicians doing radio checks to ensure that the radios and repeaters were working. So....useless.

Depends on where you are. Here in Palm Beach County, the NpSpac freq’s are never used. But down in Dade County, they’re used daily, & not just for radio checks. Matter of fact, last night 8 Call 90 had so much radio traffic, I had to turn the radio down so I could hear the TV.

The whole Part number is MTX? or is it like MTX1550 MTX4550?

You might be confusing everyone with your Canadian radio.

MTX1550 will take a VHF frequency all day. 12.5 kHz only. MTX or MTX850 MTX8250 are all 800Mhz only. Motorola won't sell anyone that software anymore i don't think so you'll have to find it or a shop that will do it for you. If you have some chemical or oil and gas industries in your area the local Motorola shop should have the ability to program these IS Canada only radios.

He gave the full model number in the first post. It's an 800MHz radio.
