• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

CPS R06.12.02 - which is the same CPS as the HT1250 portables.

Just curious, what's the difference between this radio and the HT1250?

no it is NOT the same as the HT series other than the LS, you need the trunking professional software. the trunking professional software is HVN9067 and the current version is in the 2.xx revision i believe.

I'll second that the HT1250 CPS is no good for these radios, HVN9025 is the other CPS P/N for the LTR/Passport version of the MTX8250

Be advised that these radios are not amenable to rebanding in trunked systems.

also if this is for a trunked system that you are allowed to be on, you will have to get the permission of the system manager and let him program it. hacking the radio/software to program it without a key is not advisable, especially when they know you have a personal radio on it!

as to rebanded systems, it depends on the new freqs. if they still have the original FCC channel ID then they work fine. i have never tried one on a system with the new channels though, nor researched it. but they should work even on them since they were still in production up until a month or so ago. they will not work on any freqs 861mhz or higher though.

i was just pointing out that if you are an authorized user on a trunk system the system manager is going to likely require that they program it, so no need to buy the software. it is hard to hide an unauthorized unit if they know you are using a radio.

also on the 8250 it won't do priority monitor, so if you need priority scan you don't want this unit. also won't do emergency call.

they are great radios for basic tx/rx, not so great for added features. i have 2 of them that i use almost daily.

Moto online better change the listing then, because when I ran the search it said that this version of CPS was for the HT, EX, and MTX series radios...
