• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Looking for any and all information on a Motorola People Finder. In particular I am looking on how to change frequency and add features or change.

I was told that it is a GP300 based radio and that the freq might be programmable? This people finder also has the formats of: Two Tone, POCSAG Numeric, and GOLAY Num&Voice. I would like to also add POCSAG Alpha to it.

Any help would be great!

The company I worked for had a dozen people finders
in their factories. 25 years go? I programmed and serviced
the units which worked well.
These were 4 watt UHF units and I drove 100 watt amplifiers
with them. We used them for FM voice and paging.
Like all equipment, there were many versions and as I remember
they had E-Proms containing the basic information.
Ours were crystal controlled units, and based on the HT-60
hand held. There were other versions with with several other
hand held boards.
A few things from memory: Could do three or four different
types of paging formats and could hold about 100 pagers. This
info was programmed by using the people finder key pad.
It had a telephone interface so you could access the paging
input from a remote telephone.
Built in CW Id'er
Too many other options to remember

You might provide the exact model number on the bottom of the unit.
This would help narrow down what you have. I can have a look to see
if my former employer still has any of the manuals laying around.

Note: The programming was protected by a pass word to give
you access to all the features. I think they came from the factory
with "7931" The pass word prompt was obtained by holding down
keys 1 & 9 while turning on the rear power switch.
