• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello just have one question to ask about this radio.

I am just borrowing a friends radio here his PR400. My question is, when you turn the radio on the dispaly light or the light comes on everytime you turn it on then after a few seconds it goes off, then when you press any button the light comes back on.

Just wondering is there somewhere in the software or anywhere you can disable that light from coming on everytime you turn it on and press any button other than what button you have the light set up on when you press it to make it come on, or is that how it is and you can't disable the light from coming on everytime you turn it on or press any button.

Just would like the light to come on only if you set it up in the software when you press the one button only you have it set up for.

Let me know.

Thanks

I haven't played with this handheld but that can be done with all of the display Astro/Astro 25 radios as well as TRBO CPS. Imagine it's in there somewhere.

(I may be wrong about it being in TRBO CPS).

The thing is, I don't think the Commercial CPS, with a display PR400 plug loaded, has any option for auto-backlight. I've spent the last hour looking for one and can't find it. I may be missing something, but as is, I'm confused why a radio would be auto-backlighting without any selectable option for it.

Anyone more familiar with Commercial CPS than I have any amplifying info?

In the Programmable Menu section, check the Lights box. Then assign one of the programmable buttons to Toggle Light On/Off. That should do the trick. I don't have time to program up a radio right and play with it to verify that it will hold the light off when you shut down and then power up the radio. I can do that in the AM if needed.

Ok that is what I had it set to do to toggle that light on and off by pressing that one programmable button, but the light still comes on when I press any other buttons even the keypad buttons.

So if you can try it out at your end to see and let me know if it works for you and if it does will try it.

So when I give it back to my friend, the light will only come on when you press that one programmable button only, not by hitting any button on the radio and when you turn the radio on each time. If there is no way to stop the light from coming on each time you turn the radio on, then not going to worry about that part. Just then only have it come on by pressing that one programmable button only.

Let me know

Thanks

Finally got time to program up a radio. Here's what I found.

Program a button for Menu Mode and in the Programmable Menu section, make sure that Lights is checked.

Now you can select Menu Mode and then Utility and then Lights. There you can toggle the backlight fully off. Once you do that, the radio can be turned off and back on. The backlight will light briefly when you first power on the radio and then it will remain off.

You won't need a button programmed to turn the backlight on and off.
