I just bought a Moto MTS2000 Radio. I am curious what is needed to program it. Is it just the cable and software needed? Where can I get the software to program it. I havent been able to find it on the Moto website anywhere. I would like to be able to program it myself so I can add new frequencies as I want them. Instead of having a neighboring city fire cheif program it for me.

Google MTS2000 RSS, and see if anything comes up. Usually a good google search will render useful files.

If it was programmed with CPS last, you may not be able to find it as easily, if not at all unless you "know" someone.

You will need software, a RIB box, and a cable. If you get a RIB-Less cable, you will not need the RIB box. You're all set.

I assume the RIBless means the rib circuitry is in the cable..i saw a cable that said it had the RIB circuitry in the cable already

Hope Mother Moto does not find you with those "useful files"...only legal way to possess a copy of Motorola software is to buy it from them...granted they do charge an arm and a leg but just throwing out the proverbial warning about software usage....

The sad part is that they will do anything to get someone, even if they stopped selling the RSS. What's the use in that? To get us to buy new radios? Naw, I'll switch to other companies 1st

Yes, the "RIBless" cables have RIB (level conversion) functionality built in.

Ya know, Alot of the equipment we use at work, the software for programming is free. But to use it you either have to have the peice of equipment hooked to the computer, or buy a key. (equipment such as industrial cameras, PLC programs and such)...wish Moto would go to that...

This needs to be a Sticky. The whole conversation about programming Motorola radios has been had several times in the forums already.

Besides, programming a transceiver is off-topic for the Scanner Software forum.

I Hope Mother Moto does not here you say "Buy" it from them. Cause if you read the Legal document the comes with it, you will find that you are only paying to "Use" it. I can give my house, car, tv, just about anything i have away. But I can not give it away, sell it or copy it and give the copy to anyone else.
