• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Motorola R7 Codeplug Locked

Hello! I recently purchased a Motorola R7 UHF Capable for 600 CAD (~436 USD) on Facebook Marketplace. This is my first Motorola purchase and I was super excited!

That was until I received my programming cable and hooked it up to the CPS. The codeplug is password-protected. I expected this, having been searching around on the internet about other people experiences with second-hand Motorola radios. I will admit, this was a lack of due diligence on my part before purchasing the radio. Keeping the information on the codeplug was never a target of mine, however, as I don't know the business of which the radio comes from, so that wasn't that big of a deal for me. However, when I tried to recover the radio with the proper firmware from Motorola, or even write a unlocked codeplug from another source onto my radio, it still asked for a password which has me completely baffled. This is absolutely not what I expected based on the experiences of others that I have seen.

I emailed Motorola asking if there was anything that they could do, and they mentioned Enhanced Password Recovery which is a service that can only be obtained through their authorized partners.

I am now hoping that one of you lovely people had any other things I could try before reaching out to different partners in my are, asking for help with my radio.

(please forgive me if i'm lacking any crucial information, please ask and i will gladly hand it over, all help is greatly appreciated :))

Return it. Unless the seller put that the radio and everything is password protected, they have no business selling it like that. Product not as advertised.

436 USD for an R7 is almost too good to be true, regardless of conditon. Not saying you should have seen it coming, but thats for sure a red flag.

I'll contact the seller and see what he has to say. Seeing as the deal took place on Facebook Marketplace, it's not as easy as shipping the item back to them and waiting for my money to come back to my account.

100% agreed, I did try to do as much due diligence in terms of what to look for physically on the radio before the meet-up, but obviously that was not enough in this case.
