To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello guys,

I have a Motorola DP 3400 from a previous job. However, it is programmed to work there. Is there a way it can be programmed to work with another system? It would be a shame to waste.

Help much appreciated.

Thanks

Yes, they can be reprogrammed.

When you say "Other System", that raises some questions. These radios are either VHF OR UHF. The "other system" would need to be on the same band, same mode (analog or DMR), etc.

Since you posted this in the Amateur Radio Forum, I've got to ask if you meant you wanted to use it on the amateur radio bands, or are you strictly talking about using this for "work" use?

Okay that's a great start! My workplace used to have multiple radio users on a network which I imagine is either UTF or VHF but due to it being locked to their network it cannot be used on anything else.

Which is why I wanted to reprogramme so I can use it in the same way in my new workplace. As you can probably tell I am very unfamiliar with this.

Thank you buddy.

Under the battery there will be a label with a bunch of info on it. There should be an FCC ID on there. That would tell us if it was UHF (there's two models) or VHF.
Then you'd need to know a lot of info about the work system that you want to put it on.

If they are compatible the next legal step is to get permission in writing from whoever the FCC license is assigned to at your new job. Adding a radio to someone else's radio system, even if you work for them, requires approval from the licensee. Simply being an employee does not grant you access to their radio system or permit you to make changes to it, like adding additional radios.

With that and the correct programming info, you could take it to a Motorola shop and they could reprogram the radio for you.
It won't be cheap, though.
