• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

These SP10 radios have been modded, (likely BearCom) to permit selection of 4 frequencies. This works by changing the DIP Switch connector remotely from the top of the radio.

The ones I have seen have MURS 4, MURS 5, and a couple of other LP channels on VHF.

Remember the SP10 is only capable of 16 frequencies from the limited basic list anyway, all in the low VHF 151 or MURS band. The Batlabs page has the exact frequencies the radio is capable of.

Keep in mind the radio is only good for one more year anyway.

just to clarify

Anyone else who buys these..
The switch is connected via wire and soldered to the pins of the dip switch, if your capable of soldering, it would be a simple modification.
On the single channel its just the dip switch

Motorola only made single channel SP10's. Bearcom (and possibly others) modified them (which voided the new warranty) with a 4 channel selector knob. Internally they ran a multi-conductor flat wire to the dip switch which changed the setting of the switch (electrically) when the channel selector was changed. They aren't bad little radios, just don't drop it because the plastic is brittle.

It is also NOT NARROWBAND compliant as my post in this THREE YEAR OLD THREAD indicated, back in 2011.

Why would you even bother with such ancient, cheap radios?

For only a few more bucks you can get any of a bunch of models that are much newer and much more capable.

I have about a hundred SP10s and 50s we are going to use for shotgun practice this weekend. That's all I use them for.

Scanning this morning and happened across a man and woman cursing up a storm on 464.55. Found this thread when looking up the frequency. Wish I would have recorded a bit. These two would make a sailor blush...
