• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a trunking Spectra trunk mount that I just received and I am trying to wipe out the old frequencies and system that it came with. I know a little about these but obviously not enough because I can remove the conv. modes but the trunking system, well I just cant figure out how to get rid of that!

Any help asap would be appreciated!! Thanks!

A trunking radio can be a pain to wipe clean. You have to delete the talk groups and then the systems. Programming a TRS is not for the weak at heart!

Ok. So, it's an 800 MHz radio... Are you trying to make it completely conventional? If so, following the tricks on that link to repeater-builder.com will do the trick. They sure did for me. The only tricky part is in deleting the LAST trunked personality. All the ones before that just leave when you tell them to.

But if you're just trying to put a different trunked system in, you don't have to go through the exercise of wiping it clean. Just create the new trunked personalities you need, and then delete the ones you don't need.

Got sys keys?

Thanks everyone for the help! I ended up having the syskeys made for me so that I could delete the current systems! worked like a charm but no kidding "not for the weak of heart" !! That was by far the most difficult single task I have had to do with Motorola's!! nice to acquiring new knowledge on these radios though!

Thanks again!

The software supports the radio, not the other way around.

And there are actually applications where a non-Astro Spectra works, where an Astro Spectra will not. Example: I use several radios for test purposes, monitoring signal strength, for example. The Astro Spectra does not do RSSI, making it useless to me as a test radio.

So, the older DOS RSS is a minor annoyance in comparison to the usefulness of that particular feature.
