• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Since I live in the USA I have never held an actual TETRA radio. My question is... in the US on our "TETRA" standard called P25 you have a selector rotary switch at the top you use to change talkgroups or I think you can go through the menu...

Anyways,,, how do you change a talkgroup on a Motorola radio? Do you have to go to menu first or can you just click the button up or down until you find the one you want? And then just press the PTT? Also, do they have "Zones" I'm guessing this is accessed through the menu screen. thanks.

one more: I know that TETRA is used in the UK so can an officer from the MET, change his radio to a dispatch talkgroup for a police in northumberland county?

or can a met police officer speak to an ambulance officer on their main talkgroup channels?

thanks sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much i know its a loaded question!!!

On the Motorola MTP850 you push the rotary switch, turn it to the talkgroup you wish to use and push again to confirm your selection. If you don't push before turning the rotary switch will change the volume. Note that this might be programmable but I have seen it work as described.
Alternatively the user may use the keypad to enter the menu and e.g. select a talkgroup from a different folder or through alphabetic listing.

Once the talkgroup is selected either via the rotary switch or the menu the user can press the PTT button.

There are no "zones" in TETRA, however the system may restrict the use of certain talkgroups to particular base stations that can belong to the same or different TETRA exchanges/switches (which are interconnected to allow network-wide calls).
For the radio user this is transparent, he only needs to select the talkgroup he wants to use and press PTT; if he isn't authorized or if he is registered to a base station that is not part of the talkgroup area then then call will fail.

one more: I know that TETRA is used in the UK so can an officer from the MET, change his radio to a dispatch talkgroup for a police in northumberland county?
If such talkgroups are programmed into the radio or downloaded via DGNA (Dynamic Group Number Assignment) then yes, it would be possible.

or can a met police officer speak to an ambulance officer on their main talkgroup channels?
Only if the individual talkgroups are patched together by an authorized dispatcher.

That's great... thanks for that reply. I too have always wondered how TETRA menus are set up compared to our "TETRA of the US" (P25).
