• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Here's the thing and @K2NEC is correct. Once you get them programmed, what if you need to make a change or add something, or even remove something? While it's find to send radios out to get programmed, often the customer decides later they need this, that, or the other and then they're sending them back to me (or whomever) and paying again.

There's loads of help here to get you the stuff you need, a cable is pretty cheap these days, and once you get Motorola account, the software for that is Free.

Also if you get the software, it's way easier to get help, or even get what you ask done, and save shipping. I email different code plugs to people all the time (ham radio buddies) and they just open the CPS, and get it on their radios.

...or you could buy the cable and learn how to program them yourself?
... or you could keep snarky thoughts to yourself?? I have programmed many radios commercial and otherwise, Including Motorola pm400, cdm1250,Dtr series etc. I KNOW what a PITA it can be and I dont feel like dealing with the headaches of drivers etc etc to get these working with windows 10. I just need 4 radios programmed and I wont need them changed. These are personal use for my group and we won't be changing anything. Thanks for your helpful comments 🙄

Oh good, so you want to make it someone else's problem instead? There's a ton of settings to program on a radio, and if someone messes one up, now the radio needs to be reprogrammed again. IDK about others, but I wouldn't want to be responsible for that.

All you need is a cable, drivers are already on your computer or included with the CPS install, which again is free. Not being snarky, trying to figure out why a simple radio programming is being outsourced

Its most times not "simple" and there are folks that do this, I have programmed radios for folls. If you have all the cables, Software and drivers all playing nicely then its easy. But why buy a prgramming cable and deal with trying to get software and get it all working when I can spend likely less to just have them done? Like I said I have programmed hundreds of radios, so I know its usually a pita to get a new one set up. Thats "why".

I picked up a used XPR6550.
I am running the latest CPS2.0 (ver. 2.155.258.0)

When I attempt to read the codeplug I get the following error:
"[#101005] Codeplug version not supported. Please refer to application help files for supported codeplug versions."

The firmware version in the radio is R01.06.00
I downloaded the latest firmware package: MOTOTRBO_R011217_130203_PortableNA.exe
When I attempt to install the package (run as administrator) I get the following error:
"MOTOTRBO CPS must be installed before installing this package"

I am receiving the same error on both a Windows 11 desktop and a Windows 10 Laptop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So youre just lazy, got it. $25 programming cable vs $300 in programming. Not my money, I dont care, so let's stop talking about it.

Actually it is quite simple. His radio firmware is too old, and the radio software is too new. The radio and CPS cant shake hands. He just needs to upgrade the firmware in steps using an older CPS version. Not that this has anything to do with you or your issue

So anywho, anyone want to make some coin to progran 4 xpr6550 radios?
Post here exactly what you're wanting programmed, maybe you'll get some takers. Never ceases to amaze me people come here wanting help, then get rude when we try and help, and then, it's like a secret what they want. Exactly what do you need programmed in these four radios?

My late mother used to tell me "when you're rude to the supplier, the supply ends"
In this case, the supplier isn't even interested in helping to begin with.

I have the programming cable and the CPS and I may do it for you contingent on what you want programmed. I won't do trunking, 700/800 MHz, or any public safety or SMR systems.

If you can send me a summary on what you want programmed and what will the radios be used for, I may do it. I don't charge, you just pay for the shipping both ways.

You can email me your programming summary to: ken.mitchell@azgmrs.org

Let me know how I can help.
