To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I've seen pics of an XTL2500 with a custom color adjustment. Custom colors aside from the Red, Green and Amber. I also need to adjust my contrast some.
How can this be done?

Thanks,
Dave

CPS allows you to choose the percent of each color when you program the radio. Its under Radio Configuration then Display & Menu then Menu Items.
Which Menu Item is it? I already have COLR selected and it is assigned a SoftKey on the radio.
Under Backlight Color Control I see the percentages but they are non-adjustable.

Ok, maybe the XTL is not adjustable for percentage, I'm probably thinking of the APX series.
I just checked on my XTL5000 with the O5 head and I am able to adjust percentages. I tried to upload a picture but it was "too large for the server to process" so just take my word for it.

On the control head with the color option. I get the usual red/green/amber/etc colors and when I scroll to the end there's an option for 5 custom colors that allows me to adjust the red and green percentage

I'm jealous.... When I scroll with the knob it just shows Green Red or Amber.
Not being able to adjust the contrast is a bummer also.

Now I'm curious if it's because it's a 2500 brick or if it would let you adjust it with an O5 head...

The 5000 will with an O5, the 2500 won't. If you mod a 2500 head to use on a 5000, it allows color percentages and all the other 5000 features because - surprise! they are the same internally.

No way to mod a 2500 in to a 5000?
Sure there is. About thirty minutes. Don’t forget the simple jumper mod for the 2500 head. Most people I know prefer the black 2500 head, so they put 2500 heads on their 5000’s. Some have a 2500, but want to use the 03 HHCH, so they upgrade their 2500 to a 5000. But it’s a simple upgrade.
