• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have an XTL 5000 with a VRS-750 that I cannot get to read or write. I keep getting “Radio Failed to Acknowledge”. I have tried 3 computers, 2 separate software revisions, tried to force the saved codeplug into it, used my cable on another radio, and It works so I know it isn’t the cable or the computer so it has to be the radio. I’ve tried unplugging the VRS and it causes the radio to stick open on TX as soon as it powers up and doesn’t read or write. I’m using the rear accessory connector with a OEM programming cable that ends with a DB9. I’m pretty lost on this one. Service manuals haven’t helped. I cloned this radio to another spare and have the same exact issues with it as well.

What control head is on the XTL? By chance is there an "Emergency" button programed on radio and it has been activated?

O5 remote head. No emergency button programmed and I haven't gotten any indication of an emergency activation. I used to be able to program it by disconnecting the VRS but when I do it now, I get a short beep like a key press about 10 seconds after disconnecting and it constantly transmits. When powering the radio off, disconnecting the VRS, and powering back on, I get the Error 12/10 code and the radio constantly transmits. When I change the channel I get the long steady low tone as if I'm holding the PTT and the call can't go through.

Error 12/10 is common when VRS is disconnected from radio so that seems to be working correctly. If all was working fine together before changing code plug I look at the codeplug.

I have 4 VRS-750's and never had this problem. Sorry could not help you more.

WoW you unplugging the VRS while radio is powered on? I do not know for sure but unplugging and plugging in may lead to trouble while powered on.
