• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a XTS 2500 Model 3 FPP VHF and I'm using it in mixed mode RX because I two channels I use, one analog and one digital same frequency, just simplex. When I have the radio in analog TX though it key quickly 5 times and flashes "secure" on the screen. It'll do that every couple minutes. What would cause that?

The Secure knob in the secure position would be my first thought. Might also check and make sure it's in analog transmit and not digital for that mode.

What secure knob? The RX is Mixed mode and the TX is set for analog in FPP. There has to be a setting in CPS that I'm missing.

Check the secure settings under the conventional personality tab.

Why are you pressing the PTT 5 times in a row quickly?

it sounds like the radio may have some issues.

What version of firmware is on it currently?

An analog mode set for Mixed Mode Receive with encryption enabled will transmit in encrypted digital.

Check your Conventional Personality's Secure tab. Secure/Clear strapping should be set to Clear if you have no intention of using Secure on your analog channel.

If it was digital P25 that it was occuring I was initially thinking that DVRS is enabled and it is looking for its mate. But in analog?? Hmmm.....

Yes, in analog.

Set your Rx Voice/Signal Type to Mixed Mode, Tx Voice/Signal Type to Analog and Secure Voice/Signal Type to Astro.

Turning Secure on will cause your analog channel to transmit in Secure Astro mode.

I will check that out. I need to find my CD and reinstall CPS on this machine first though. Thanks.

I wondered as well but I'd be more worried of a BN posing as an AN rather than an AN posing as a BN although you never know what some people might do.

This is true! Unless one decides to try and drop some BN firmware into an AN radio... Hello expensive brick!

With that firmware and DSP, it's most likely a 4meg AN.

Does the radio model number end in AN or BN?

It cannot be an AN with an 8meg board. Someone has done some finger plucking. I have had ONE exception to this rule, and it came from the Depot. They subbed a BN board into an AN frame on a flat rate repair because they were out of AN boards, then proceeded to force the AN programming into it which caused ALL kinds of issues. I sent it back and made the Depot replace the housing with the correct BN housing. (and a blank load so it could be programmed correctly)
