• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am a newbie in the radio world and this is my first post so please dumb it down for me. I was issued a Motorola xts 5000 and now I am having problem with the audio. I wore it on my left hip around the 7-8 o'clock position on my belt in a kydex blade-tech holster. When on the job half of the time I am standing and other half I am sitting in my car. While sitting in the car seat my bodyweight is exerting more pressure on the radio, as it is squashed against the seat. After doing this for about 8 month, the radio volume is now really sensitive, depending how I am sitting and where the radio is situated the volume is either normal or it drops down to barely a whisper. Now I have to squirm around just trying to find the "sweet spot" to have the correct volume level. What is the problem? And how can I fix it? If I can fix it how can prevent it in the future? Please help and any help is greatly appreciated ps I am using a surveillance unit with my radio

Now, I'm just about more ignorant as this new user as I've never strapped one of these on. Is the pastry supposed to help locate the "sweet spot" or keep the volume button from moving when the user is sitting in the unit?

Enquiring reporters want to know.

Contact your agency's radio shop to have the radio repaired. They'll check it out and correctly repair it so it can be reliable during an emergency. If somebody without the proper knowledge and training just fusses with it in an attempt to get it working again, they may do serious damage or cause other issues that will only show up at the worst time possible.

Your issue could be something as simple as a damaged volume control or perhaps more serious as a cracked connector or board. While you only know that the volume is causing issues, there could also be other, more serious, issues as well (say the transmit audio is intermittant when the volume is low as well) that only show up at times. These issues may get worse over time or when the radio is stressed (like squishing it on the seat). You wouldn't want to find out about them during an emergency so it's better to get it serviced now when it's only an apparent minor problem.
