It’s very easy to delete the old systems off of the radio. The only reason you need a system key is to edit the existing trunking system or to add a new trunking system to the codeplug.
Deleting the old info is easy, it’s just time consuming. By default, Motorola radios require at least one generic entry per section in the tree. “Tree” meaning the left hand side of the screen on the computer after you’ve “read” the radio. It’s like an index. Each line will have an drop down menu of subsections that you can edit. Your best option is to add the new info you want in the radio and then start deleting the old info. You will inevitably end up with lots of errors to begin with as you start whittling down the old info. You will need to go into each tree section and delete items associated with the old systems section by section and line by line. If it’s a small system, it may only take you a few minutes. If it’s a large system it could take more time. The most important thing you can do is SAVE the original codeplug and name it as such. This way, should you end up with unrecoverable error in the new codeplug, you can write the original codeplug back to the radio and start over. Never, ever, ever read the radio and immediately begin to edit the original codeplug. If you brick the radio, you’ll have nothing more than a fancy paperweight.
