anyone get this to work? I've been trying to learn Motorola CPS R20. Right now I'm trying to get my radio to work with my openspot2, but I'm willing to change over to a mmdvm / pi-star if needed. Right now, I'm trying to hit a ysf reflector, but I also want to hit p25 reflectors. When I key the PTT as currently configured, I am showing up on the ysf dashboard, but no audio is going through. Also, I can't hear audio from other users of the ysf reflector.

If anyone is willing to help, I'd appreciate it.

If you’d like, I can take a look at your codeplug and see if it’s set up correctly. I often use XTS series radios, among others, with hotspots. I’m not entirely familiar with the Openspot devices, but I can at least look at the radio codeplug. I’m not entirely sure if the Openspot can do “P25 2 YSF.”

Ah, I missed that he's a premium subscriber. The ability to PM with a low post count is different for premium subscribers.

yeah, i joined so I could message people.
I did manage to connect with someone on a P25 reflector, but he said my audio keeps dropping. Both of us were on hotspots, but he said his hadn't caused him any trouble before. I could hear him just fine. I'm also a little confused on just how connecting to P25 reflectors works via hotspot... am I required to be on the talkgroup matching the reflector I am connecting to (I was on this one contact)?

I recently encountered similar issues with an XTS5000. The programming was the easy part. I have a hotspot and 1 P25 repeater (that is a multi-mode based off PiStar) to use. I noticed the following.

1) Even when not in use, the first call takes multiple tries to get in.
2) BER is all over the place, from perfect to not great, even with a strong signal (-43dbm)
3) There is often ridiculous packet loss coming back into pistar (80%+), even with excellent internet connections (hardwired 400Mbps)
4) Often I notice it can take up to 3 seconds for pistar to accept the call
5) none of these happen with DMR, D-Star or YSF on the same hardware

Someone mentioned it could be related to frequency stability. I've exhausted the tools I have available. Utilizing a dummy load and a power meter/frequency counter (uncalibrated) I determined output power is expected on both high and low, and frequency is stable to 1kHz (the accuracy of my equipment). I can't tell if it's exactly on frequency, because its not calibrated. I also used the dummy load and my TinySA, and the P25 matches the wave form from everything I see about calibrating P25 equipment. Obviously its not a true alignment or measurement, but it does show that I either need to find someone to stick it on good equipment for an alignment or deal with it.

It could be two different things. Yours could be old & drifting too, or ....... PiStar does support P25, but its the just glitchy. I'm thinking its a bit of both but have no way to verify.

P25 is intentionally partially implemented and broken in the original iteration of MMVDVM. You are beating your head against a wall in trying to adjust settings to make it work properly.

The following projects are working on implementing P25 on STM32 hardware as specified by TIA P25 standard. These repositories require you to have existing knowledge in the Linux environment as well as compiling from source. There is no official support in getting it to work, so ymmv.

GitHub - gatekeep/dvmhost: MMDVM-based Digital Voice Modem Host Software GitHub - gatekeep/dvmfirmware: MMDVM-based Digital Voice Modem Firmware GitHub - gatekeep/MMDVM_HS: MMDVM HotSpot: firmware for ZUMspot or MMDVM_HS based boards (D-Star, DMR, YSF, P25, NXDN and POCSAG)

See, now that is information I could not find in my searching, but makes sense. The way it partially works didn't make it seem like it was a radio issue, but I had no proof or the tools to prove it, and no other true P25 repeaters on the air.

I think P25 works almost better on my hotspot than other modes. It works flawlessly, but I might have been lucky and gotten a good unit. I love it so much more than D-star, and a little more than DMR.
