• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Im sure this has been asked before but I cant seem to find it. Will motoTrbo Digital ...work with Minitor pagers? I have a guy who belongs to a VFD that recently switched to Trbo and states Nova Communications came in physically altered their pagers when they switched over and since then they were receiving digital pages across their minitors and the general public could not hear them on the scanner anymore but the Rx and TX frequencies themselves never changed

Now to my knowledge this was not possible but we all know what technology is like.

Is anyone aware how this is happening?

I am aware there is a Dynamic Mixed mode which could see the general ops in trbo but paging in analog but this guy is betting his soul on the fact that locals in his area can no longer hear even their pages since the switch over. I am assuming someone has tried it.

Thoughts?

Not possible.

This guy is mistaken and mis-informed.

A guy posted in another forum that his buddy has a Minitor V that was modified to receive a third channel. We are still waiting to see some understandable evidence of it. So far, it remains just another unverifiable rumor.

*IF* someone has devised a mod to a Minitor that would allow it to work in the MOTOTRBO environment, that information would be all over the net in a flash. There has been nothing said about this anywhere that anyone has reported.

We'd all like to see evidence of what you have described. If it has been done, it is certainly worthwhile for everyone to know about. Even if it isn't what you described, it may be an innovative and interesting adaptation none the less.

Perhaps your friend has a written summary describing what was actually done?

No he wassnt very specific. He simply said they swicthed to Trbo, the radio tech guys came in and did something with their pagers but as soon as they switched, when they got paged out for something all they would get was voice and no tones or alert beeps. He said this has caused them to change back to Analog paging until "the new pagers arrive" that are aparently on order. He hassnt confirmed but he thinks they are minitors aswell.

Whats interesting to note is that allthough they didnt get the tones, the voice was still not scanable in the area (so he says) and was digital.

Mabey its possible for just audio and not to send the right tone to set the pager off??

I dont know, I figured atleast someone in the area would have mentioned the fact that they can still hear the local FD but it was the opposite with people saying they can no longer hear them. The freq is unchanged so...how are they getting paged out?

I have no idea

Just about everything makes no sense. Minitor is analog voice. Sounds like 12.5 happened and the usual "digital & no one can hear us".

Might well be the case. I talked to a sales guy for a Motorola dealership a month ago, and he was suggesting that we consider the MotoTrbo to replace our WB base radio even though we're not going to do anything but switch to NB. According to him, it could be a smart purchase if there was a move beyond analog sometime in the future.

It got me to thinking that Motorola might be urging their dealers to push MotoTrbo even to conventional analog customers. I know a lot of VFD's and VAC's will follow their dealer's recommendations without really understanding things. Sounds more and more like that in this situation.

Sounds like the local radioshack, when ever you walk through the door you must buy the "latest & greatest" cell phone. Only those who know better will succeed in pushing away the corporate monster.

yes M is pushing dealers to push the TRBO line, they run specials at times of sell X units and get X free or even get a free repeater. of course many dealers don't pass along this free unit as free, though they may give a good discount!

Two thoughts

First, responding the the OP:
I wonder if all these techs did was change the recieve freq of the Minotor to the new MotoTrbo freq? But there's really no change in how the Minitors are getting paged, paging has just been moved to a new freq.

Second, about Big M dealers pushing MotoTrbo. Sure they would, why not?:
1. It makes money. What does re-programming the existing analogs make, compared to a new radio system.
2. And once the MotoTrbo system is in place, the same dealer can start selling GPS based applications, and other apps that only work with the digital side of radio.

GOD SAVE THE SALESMEN...

Always enjoy a salesman selling you a hammer when you need a screwdriver. I wish big M would sell direct along with others not in the comm industry. Most companies could do just as good selling direct or not having so many levels of dealers out there. Quotas kill any industry and jack prices up.
