Greetings! I have recently moved to the Bay Area, and as a firefighter for 23 years, now retired, I'm interested in learning how FD comms here operate. I can pick up Santa Clara County dispatch just fine, but have failed miserably with Mountain View FD.

According to RR, MVFD has three VHF frequencies, 154.025 (Backup), 154.830 (Command) and 158.865 (Tactical). Nothing is received on these, yet, using an iOS app such as Scanner Radio gives me dispatch audio, and it claims to receive 154.025 as "Fire Primary".

Can anyone clarify this situation?

Mountain View Fire (as well as the vast majority of other public safety agencies in the county) switched to the SVRCS P25 phase 2 system several years ago. I think county continues to simulcast on their VHF systems for compatibility with other agencies that can’t or don’t operate on SVRCS.
