I'll be moving to the Mesa area in the next few months and wanted to know if I can still scan fire and police. In SC everything is digital and encrypted. Thanks in advance!

used to live there. was there for 21 years. still get down there 1 or twice a year. hot as hell, but youll get used to it, about a year. police, fire, ems is p25 phase 1. very rarely enc except for maybe swat or warrent service. helocopters ( police ) all the time in the air. plus a lot of military to listen to also ins, border patrol, they have been rolled into homeland security. alot of their comms are enc. but still enough to listen to.a fair amount of military also, mostly airforce. i you want to go to the mesa main police station. pick up a application to go thru the "mesa civilian police accademy. real cool stuff. alot of inside info. when i took it it was 6 weeks long two nights a week 3 or 4 hours each.you learn alot of cool stuf. you get to go on tours to the labs, shooting range, and shoot if you want. ride alongs, and a possibility to do a ride along in the helicopters. there is no actual strenios stuff that you would expect as in a real police accademy. after you submit your application, they run you thru the fbi data base to makesure your not a bad guy. i miss being there alot. a lot of stuff to do to keep busy. good luck and have fun, and be safe.

Don't believe that you'll get used to the heat. I've been here since 1974 and I haven't "gotten used to it". You learn how to deal with it, but you don't get used to it, though.

Anyway, for Mesa you'll need a digital scanner. Only the "hot" traffic is encrypted. I don't have them programmed into either of my scanners because they tend to be real busy and prevent RWC from getting through and I'm more interested in Scottsdale and Tempe than I am Mesa.

If you can put off your move until, say, October, the worst part of the heat will be over and you'll get a good six months to prepare yourself for the summer, however, moving I'm mid-July will throw you right into the middle of it and you'll get to experience it right away so you'll know what to expect.

You can, although there are many encrypted talk groups on the YRCS as well - You'll need a digital scanner (they're not at P25 Phase II yet, but probably will be in the not too near distant future)...

You can peruse the system here: TOPAZ Regional Wireless Cooperative (TRWC) Trunking System, Mesa, Arizona - Scanner Frequencies

Also if you travel into tempe phoenix scottsdale, chandler areas, you will want this system, the RWC, Regional Wireless Cooperative (RWC) Trunking System, Phoenix, Arizona - Scanner Frequencies

The Maricopa County Sheriffs are on this sys:
Maricopa County Trunking System, Maricopa County, Arizona - Scanner Frequencies

County Link: Maricopa County, Arizona (AZ) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

I will second Mrthor, if you need a base Freescan file to start I would be happy to share.

Mesa Programming Offer

Hello all,

Been in Mesa for 3 years and just dug my 785D out of a box. Having a good time listening to ATC at Gateway but can't get anything from TOPAZ for Mesa PD. I let Proscan upload everything from RR and can't get anything. I might be missing something.

If anyone has a Proscan config for Mesa, I would love that!

The 785 will not track a P25 system (9600 baud control data, all digital talkgroups), it only handles P16 systems (3600 baud control data, mixture of analog or digital talkgroups.) and earlier systems.

You need a newer scanner such as the 996 series. If you are going to invest in a new scanner get one that handles Phase 2 (BCD996P2 for example) as the systems may well be upgraded soon.

Yep, found this in the manual "Trunked with digital control channel and digital voice. Control channel operates at 9600 Baud. (This type of APCO P-25 System is not supported with this radio.)"

Guess I'm buying a new one!

The good thing is as you probably already know, that old Uniden is one of the best air band scanners out there....a keeper for sure.

I'm afraid my file is already getting out of date. I'd love to see what you have, if the offer is still out there. You can DM me, if so, and I'll provide an email address.

Thanks!

Welcome to the site! There's a great group of people on here that are always willing to help. Unfortunately I have no idea why you can't start a new thread. All I can think of is maybe you weren't logged in, but I would have thought the system would tell you to log in. Hopefully someone smarter than me can offer a better suggestion.

You may have to prove that you're a real person with a few comments to existing threads by others before being given permission to start your own threads.
This is only a guess on my part, however.
