We'll be moving from Hopewell, VA to Dutchess Co, NY in September. More than likely we'll be in the Fishkill area and wife will be working in White Plains. What are the chances of picking up NYPD that far away? Are White Plains and Dutchess decent listening?

BTW - Anyone know of a house to rent for 6 months in Dutchess? Need a short lease so we can get used to the area and then purchase.

Not sure we can take the lifestyle change longer than that! LOL

You won't hear anything from NYC that far up. Monitoring in White Plains, believe it or not, is quite boring. I'm a state court officer there, and I bring a radio with me to listen and I don't hear much exciting down there. Sheriff's office has four dispatch frequencies, plus you have NYSP covering as well. Dutchess County dispatches on a 911 frequency, and for fire there are multiple fireground repeaters. Check out the Dutchess County frequency list on this site.
Make sure you have a scanner that does EDACS...Poughkeepsie, Fishkill, some sheriff's stuff is on EDACS.

You must be in a bad spot. I can hear FDNY most days when driving along Route 20 in Guilderland (near I-87) and on I-90 in Albany at least as far as the Hudson River bridge (Patroon Island Bridge).

Yeah, the Town of Dover...living here is almost like living on the moon...sometimes when the band opens, I can hear the Bronx Transit Bureau on 160.500. Go figure! :D

On the Rt 9 corridor in Poughkeepsie you can pick up some UHF stuff as well as VHF. The problem is that when you go further south in Dutchess you fall into the shadow of the mountains in Putnam County. There are slots of some reception in the county, however it's catcher catch can. If you are up on top of some of the hills in Fishkill you may have some better luck.
