As of today Mt Comfort Airport is known as Indianapolis Regional. The name change is because too many pilots couldn't find it on maps. Sounds stupid to me, no one had trouble finding it for the air shows on the ground or in the air. They said part of the reason for the change now is the upcoming (maybe) Super Bowl and the fact they expect 100's of planes at the airport. To me it seems like another power grab by the city of Indianapolis and since they own the Indy airport who owns the "Indianapolis Regional" it wasn;t a tough job to change the name. Seems though that since it's in Hancock Co. the voters here should have had a say, not the Indanapolis Airport Authority board.
Oh well, another name goes away.

LOL I agree with you there K9WG! But you and I both know that Ballard has been taking lesson from Carmels mayor on lame excuses for land grabs, this is just Ballard and the city trying to expand. And what better way to do it but start with what the city already owns in the county. I don't want to become part of Marion County..... it's already too close for "comfort" (pun intended)

That "land grab" was done many years ago when Indianapolis Airport Authority took over the airport.

And it will always be Mount Comfort Airport to me. Just like that big one in Indy is Weir Cook....
(Another one of the long list of reasons I moved out of Indianapolis)

Frequencies will remain the same.Only the name of the airport has changed..Indianapolis is moving forward and the name change reflects that.

you miss the point, they want whats between the airport and Marion Co line too. Thats a growing area, especially for buisiness.

At least they didnt go for the politically correct rename like the Jackson, MS international airport... or the New Orleans international...

Mt Comfort is too small for "international" designation. It has 2 claims to fame:
1: the yearly airshow which of course was and is the "Indy airshow" even though it's not in Indy.
2: the monthly late night touch and goes by AF-1 and AF-2. Every month they touch the wheels down and take off again. It's the smallest runway they can land on so thats wht they do the training there.

the latter may change though. They are supposed to extend the main runway and make it capable of handling heavier aircraft. That expansion was supposed to be done this year and i don't know if they even started. They did do some work but that appeared to only be addig some new electronics. They had a lot of Indianapolis Aiport Authority dumptrucks hauling stone in there but thats all I have seen done in the two years they were supposed to expand the runway.
