hi i live in Mt Juliet Tennessee and i am on the metropolitan government p25 system for my area, all i can hear is mjpd dispatch and fire but nothing else, is there something i am missing i have all the correct tgids

All the MJ Tg's but Dispatch are encrypted except the Event ones. In the DB, you will see D or E for the mode. D is Digital and is in the clear. E is Digital Encrypted.

Scanners can not decrypt encrypted transmissions. They are encrypted to prevent scanner users from hearing what they are saying

Are there unencrypted talkgroups that you are not hearing that you think you should? Perhaps your original question has been misunderstood.

Can you give us an example? Are you wanting to be able to hear Nashville Fire Department's Dispatch (TGID 1251)?

Mount Juliet police rarely use their encrypted talkgroups. Mount Juliet is a small town, so there's not much radio traffic in the clear or encrypted.

I think your problem may be that you only have the Mount Juliet site programmed. The only TGs that you will hear on that site are the Mount Juliet TGs. Have you programmed the Davidson County Simulcast site into your radio?

The Davidson County Simulcast. All you need to enter is the 857.0375 control channel. With the 396XT you will likely encounter significant distortion problems because of the simulcast issue.

The Metro Nashville/Davidson TRS is split into 3 subsystems. The primary Davidson County Simulcast, the MJ stand alone site, and the Goodlettsville stand alone site. The big simulcast carries all the Metro Nashville traffic, and most of the Davidson County traffic. MJ carries MJ and can also carry Metro if need be. Goodlettsville carries G'ville and can also carry Metro if need be. Also there is the TACN which carries THP, TNDOT, and the other State Agencies. Over the next 2 years, Williamson is building out an P25 simulcast which will be using the Metro system as its core/control. This future system will also be tied into the TVA P25, and become an large regional system. Eventually it will then become an subsystem of the TACN, and become the TACN's West Central zone/hub.
