Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Alright so a friend of mine got two MT2000s and I agreed to program them for him. The first one went without problems, now, after I used the clone feature in the RSS to save me an hour, the keypad on the second radio won't respond. I don't recall if it worked before I started cloning, but there are no beeps when pushed, no dial tones come out when I try to do that (Hot Keypad). The keypad lights up, but nothing happens when I push it. This is very important because I need it to change the zones. Could the keypad be bad altogether?

Thanks in advance,
Danny

Did the keypad on the 2nd radio work before you cloned it? I've had a few Keypad Jedi's over the years where the keypads went from working poorly to not working at all. Took off the front cover, & removed the front board behind the buttons, & cleaned the keypad contacts with alcohol. Worked like new again. But try to find out if the keypad worked before the clone. Thanks for the response! I can't remember if it was, but I'll ask my friend if he knows. I haven't taken a JEDI apart before, so I wouldn't know how. Is there some "tutorial" on how to do that?

Well despite my efforts, I did get it open and I cleaned the contacts, even though they seemed clean, and I made sure it was pushed down as far it would go, it still is unresponsive. Now I guess the next question is, what are my options? If any?

it sounds like the keyboard isnt enabled in the software (radio wide parameters). this isnt a frequency issue its a feature issue. you may have to get creative to enable the keyboard.

Well I spent half an hour trying to see if it was disabled in the RADIO WIDE Parameters and couldn't find anything. I attempted cloning it again and still no luck. But I noticed something funny, whenever I program any changes into the bad radio, the code plug block number changes from "1 of 30" to "1 of 28" within the first second. I also dug a little further and found out the good radio's code plug type is 000F, but the bad radio's is 000A. Does this have anything to do with it?

I just went into CPS & in the conventional personality section where you enter the freq, you go to the TX window where you'd set the TX timer, & TX dev. There is a box to check that says Hot Keypad. That should do it. Well now that I re read the OP I see he's got MT2000's, not MTS2000's so he's using RSS, but there must be a similar place to choose Hot Keypad. I used to be real familiar with RSS, but now that I've upgraded to CPS, it's much easier, & so well organized. GARY N4KVE
