• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm getting so much conflicting info online about which batteries work with which chargers. Anyone with knowledge of the following model numbers, any help would be appreciated.

I have:
Three NTN7144 batteries (used)
One WPNN4013 battery (new) - which says I cannot use with the NTN1174A charger.
Two NTN1174A chargers (used)

I put the 7144 batteries into the chargers I have for like 10hrs each and the charge indicator never shut off.

I have friends who both have the NTN7209A chargers so I have a feeling that my chargers are not the proper chargers. I'm ill be getting a 7209A charger soon, I just want to make sure it's safe to use with the two batteries I have.

This is probably confusing, but any help is appreciated.

So Cali
NTN1174x chargers are slow rate chargers, For the 7144 battery, 16 to 18 hours charge time. The indicator does not ''shut off".

You can charge the NiCad WPNN4013 battery in the NTN1174 charger but it will take forever. 20+ hours.

So I have a NTN7209A charger now. I put three aftermarket 7144 batteries on that charger and it only rapid charged for about 5 mins before going green to a slow rate charge.....

All of those batteries were used and fairly old, but I don't know if it's them or a bad charger.

The WPNN4013 battery I have is also NiMH and is brand new. I'm afraid to put it in the 7209 charger! Lol

You want to use the NTN8831A charger. The 7209 charger is from the last century. The 8831 charger is good for all 3 chemistries, & charges Sabers, XTS3000/5000, as well as the MTS radios. I have picked them up for as low as $10 at hamfests.

Motorola original charger base NTN8831

Will it charge both batteries? The NTN7144 and the WPNN4013A? I'm getting really really confused with all of the Motorola battery and charger options.... It's annoying lol.
