• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I can successfully read the radio but ti then asks for a password which I don't have. Any ideas? I monitored the COM port and read and stored the file, which should contain the password for the radio, but no idea where it's hidden or what to look for?

It has a password for a reason.

How did this radio come into your possession?

Try the obvious: 0000, 1234, 1111, etc.

No one gave me the password to my portables, but they unlocked with 1234.

Ebay purchase- bought just the radio from a guy who had 30 of them. So far I have the data stream from the radio to the computer so next step is to put a password on my unlocked MTX9250 and compare the two files to see where the data changes-that should be the password.

MTX9250's according to the service manual have a 5 digit code. I tried variation of 9250, 12345,54321 etc. It was an Ebay purchase-so it may just become parts for my other MTX9250 that I have working on 900 Mhz. Great radios for Amateurs!

Can you save the data dump? If so, PM me because I am more curious than anything. I've had to do this same process on customer radios that haven't been updated since the dawn of time before Motorola addressed the issue in certain software.

Absolutely! I renamed the file with a .TXT so it would upload. The original extension was .usblog. The software I used to read it was usbanalyzer from Eltima. I'd appreciate you having a look.

From looking at the data dump, those are the only numbers I see that can possible be it or even repeat.

Apparently there is a "boot backup battery" in the innards of the beast-Moto part# 1480503Z01 -I'm thinking if it's similar to a CMOS battery on a computer, removing the battery, shorting the circuit board contacts, and re-installing the battery again might be a solution.

Different software but might be worth a try since it's the same series radio

It's just slightly different- sadly- most of the string quoted is there but changing the 74 to EB doesn't work on the MTX9250

I've played a lot with the Jedi series, but not the MTX9250. If you want to drop one in a box, I can take a look and mail it back. Just the bare radio, nothing else needed. I will post the results for others. I was able to reverse engineer the MTS 2000 tool proof code, so I would be interested in doing anything to fully unlock this line of radio.
