• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

If I have a system programmed into my radio and I want to add second system to my radio do I need have the current system key and the second system key active to program the second system? Or can I just have the second system key only?

Example: I had some radios cross state lines and when they arrived to get programmed the radio would not let the programmer add a new system without an active system key from my system. At least this is what i'm told. Iv asked around and some are saying there may be some kind security to prevent others adding their systems to radio linking it back to another system, unless they have an unlimited key.

Cheers!

You need a system key for every SYSTEM, if it uses a different system ID you need a key for it. It's also possible that you have ASK and I am not too familiar with how it treats adding another system, other than not allowing programming at all if set that way.
I understand I need a key for every system. Its that do I need my key loaded in addition to the on coming systems key at the same time to add the on coming system?
If your radios have a system owner ID others will need your key to program.

Are you talking about the radios coming from Motorola fresh out of the package and they are already associated with my system? That is found under the Radio Wide section I believe. I was reading about this today and had a feeling it was related.

Unless the radio is write protected (or maybe owned ID'ed, not familiar with that one), you can just add without additional keys...But as long as you are working with that radio's file (or reading it out first). You can't clone into the radio without all the keys from that codeplug.

If you programmed the radios and were sending them elsewhere, are you sure you didn't write protect them? Is it possible, since it was more than one radio, they were trying to clone them? Without your key, they would have to do each radio individually.

(Comments are about APX, not sure if Astro25 is any different)

Yes and if ASK required is checked the key will need to be an ASK, otherwise a SW key will work.

It was only one radio so I don't think they would cloned. That would have wiped all of our stuff. But im getting the feeling it is write protected so im going to have to go to the system admin. Im going to go tomorrow to see another agency at that point ill see if I can drag their system into my radio.

Gotcha.

The big thing of this is I dont want my organization to get hemmed up over something that is in all retrospect, actually small.

Thanks guys!

Sorry to bump this one up.

I have confirmed with Motorola engineers. If the radios sent to the buyer are from Motorola and the buyer is a host of a system or have primary radio system. The buyer has an option to make them ASK required to add another radio system. Most of the time sales rep set this up. Its a security measure to ensure your radios stay with your system. So in turn if you want to add a system and your radios are ASK required you will need to bring your key and the oncoming system's key to load the oncoming system.

Thanks
