My small shack with a Radioshack Pro-96 Scanner, and a Vertex Standard VX-160 Radio.

I hope to get a few more scanners in the near future, as well as get a nice mobile shack in my PT Cruiser.

On the Pro 96 have you noticed any reduction in the audio level when you plug in the external speaker ? I have one and when i plug in the speaker it makes the volume real low and I have to turn volume to full blast to hear it. Thanks

The scanner's headphone jack has a resistor wired in series to limit the volume (for hearing protection.) As the previous poster suggested, a powered speaker will help. It is possible to bypass the resistor. A discussion about it is in this thread...

It is plugged into a powered speaker and sub woofer set that I have used on one of my old computers. There is no reduction in audio quality, in fact it is way better then the internal speaker on the Pro-96, I have the Pro-96 about 1/4 of the way up, and it is more then loud enough to hear clearly.
