For the next version of the N9JIG shack I am thinking of using a server cabinet. This plan actually has enthusiastic wife approval, in fact it was her idea.
I plan on getting a 42u 24in deep cabinet on castors, probably the Linier 3100. It has a removable smoked glass door and removable side and rear panels.
I figure on putting the UPS's and 12VDC power supplies on the bottom, the racked scanners (about a dozen all together, mostly BCT15's and 996XT's) above that and then rack mount my R8500 and IC-746. I am thinking of velcroing the 2 HomePatrol's, my dual bander head and the TRX-2 head to a panel. Above all this on shelves would be room for portables with charger stands.
My cable modem, gateway, firewall and routers etc can go on a shelf and perhaps I will buy the rack mounting gear for them and put them on the back side of the cabinet.
It would be pretty much self contained, with just a couple AC power cords, antenna lines to my wall panel and a couple networking cables. I would make them long enough to pull the cabinet out for rear or side access. The wife likes it since it will make it easier to paint here (as we plan to this fall) and clean the office. I can remote the mics for the GMRS and HF radios to the desk.
I would likely need to get a fan or two for the cabinet. Oddly for a server cabinet there will likely be no computers in it, the main computer is an iMac and the NUC I also use lives on the back of one of the monitors.
Once I get this done in whatever it ends up looking like I will post pics in the Pictures Forum of course.
The questions I have include suggestions for the cabinet itself; has anyone had experience with the Linier products or have better suggestions.
If you have any other ideas I am open. I have not ordered the cabinet yet but I plan on doing so later this weekend. I have the racks for the radios other than the 746 and would order that as soon as I order the cabinet.
