Hello,,
Apologies if its on the wrong place, mods move as needed. Thanks.

Is it possible to listen to a frequency that has a tone of NAC 156? If so, can it be added with CHIRP?

Thank you

Any frequency with a NAC means that it operates with P25 digital voice. You would need a scanner or radio that supports P25 digital voice in order to monitor it, otherwise it would sound like a bunch of random noise.

I do not have much experience with CHIRP, but I do not think that CHIRP supports any radios that can decode P25.

Thank you spitfire for the quick reply!

Any specific scanner you would recommend for it?

Thank you.

It somewhat depends on what you want to listen to, and possibly listen to in the future. I do not have experience with a variety of scanners that many of the other users have, so my ability to suggest specific models is rather limited. Some of the latest models (Uniden BCDx36HP or Whistler TRX) might be the best way to go as they will let you listen to the most variety of traffic.

Posting a location might help others comment on what they think would fit your needs.

A fairly complete list of P25 scanners can be found at the end of this post, but I would highly suggest taking a look at what you want to monitor and the features of the available scanners on this list. If you are only looking for a basic scanner for a single frequency, then just about anything on the list will probably handle it just fine.

I believe that CHIRP is a programming software for amateur radios, such as Baefong.

Most likely you would need software that is specific to whichever scanner you choose.

So just out of curiosity, what is a "NAC". What does this abbreviation stand for and what does NAC do? Is it like a PL tone for P25? Thanks.
