I was hoping someone had one for conventional channels.
Setting voice data aside, there's more than just the NAC to display from a voice channel. Link control data will provide radio id information - much like MDC1200 and other forms of ANI - so you can tell who's talking.

A separate program to display link control w/ NAC is in the works.

Great news Rick! Let me know if I can help beta test. I 'm in Houston and there are several P-25 conventional frequencies active.

I'm also interested in beta testing it. I'm in an area with some P25 conventional systems.

Rick,
How is the conventional P25 NAC decoding program progressing?

I haven't been able to work on this. I'm thinking it would be cool to have a program that can handle NAC, DCS/DPL, and MDC1200 - and possibly CTCSS. However, I'm trying to get the next UniTrunker out the door.

I think we users would be most interested in NAC. Our scanners can do the rest already, and there isn't much MDC1200 left any more (kinda like Type I trunking).

I also have P25 conventional channels nearby, mainly for National Grid (the power company, not the GPS mapping system).

There's a butt load of MDC1200 around. I hear it everywhere around here anyway.

As for Unitrunker, what the hell do you have to do to get it to decode a P25 system?

I can't get it to work at all. It tears through the other stuff with absolute perfection but when it comes to a P25 system I get nothing at all. I've tried every conceivable audio setting combination but nothing works. I even tried it on three different computers, actually four now that I think of it, two P4 laptops, a 500mhz desktop, and a P4 desktop.

Unless someone has a hint I am giving up.

Run one of those software oscilloscope programs so you can see what the actual waveform looks like. What you see on the screen is what the computer "sees" and of course what Unitrunker will have to deal with when trying to decode. I'll post screenshots of what a clean signal looks like along with some crappy examples.

This should help you diagnose the problem. The simpler two-level signal formats are more tolerant than the CQPSK and C4FM formats.

( Note to self: I need to add this to the documentation! )

Dave ... just for you I'll see if I can throw something together. I haven't had time to do the link control but the NAC can displayed easily enough.

Don't slow down UniTrunker development on my account. :)

I'll be happy to test whatever you can toss out, though. There's plenty of P25 conventional traffic to play in around here.

Next to a scanner...
I'd be really interested in the NAC also. While you're in there, would the conventional talkgroup be a whole lot more to spit out?

Radio IDs and all that would be awesome too!

I could just keep going :D .

I don't have working code for link control but NAC decoding is done so creating a form to display this is easy enough. Other extras will have to come later.

Rick,
A stand-alone Nac decoding program would be great! We can build on that in time, thanks. Again, I offer to help beta test if desired...

Here's the program. Not much too it. Unzip to a folder and run.

Select "Default Input" in the combo-box. If it says "running" ... then your good to go.

If after a few tries you don't see anything other than "000" - try checking the signal invert box.

When you're done, press the "X" box in the top left corner to close the program.

Thanks Rick!!!

I cannot wait to get home and try it out. First, a couple of questions; I assume you will need a scanner with a discriminator tap correct? If yes, must it be a P-25 scanner like a Pro-96 or will any tapped (analog) scanner do? What about a data slicer? What computer port is the program looking for the data on, i.e., serial port, line in, microphone, e.t.c. Will the program run on Windows 98, XP?

Thanks again
Wayne
