Napa CA Cal Fire dozer transport fatal accident

Napa CA - On Calif Hwy 12 in the Napa Area a fatal accident occured today (29AUG11) when a tire blowout on a bulldozer transport started a series of events that involved 3 cars...1 person died, 8 others went to the hospital...that section of Cal Hwy 12 was closed much of the day (now open)

CHP CAD initially had that a tire blowout was responsible, which may be where KPIX got that from. However, CAD was later updated to state that there was no tire blowout. Other news sources state that the driver who died crossed the double yellow line and collided with the transport, starting the chain reaction accident.

Thanks for the update...

Even though they say excessive speed was not a factor, I know that some folks coming onto Hwy 12 from Hwy 80 are mentally still in freeway hyper drive mode and forget they're now on a 2 lane hwy...(Hwy 37 was the same way until they installed the K-line barriers)

I was afraid it was something like this. It looks like the Napa SO is calling it a suicide.
