I've searched the forums for this, but can't seem to find anything exactly what I need. I'm trying to program in some frequencies that are narrowband into my FT60. When I key in the frequency 154.2725, and hit the second-to-last "2", it defaults to "0" ... Can I fix this???
I've looked in the manual, but can't make much sense of ... well ... much anything in the manual. Here is a link to the manual - It does mention narrowband occasionally ... Maybe another set of eyes could figure it out.
anything.
Thanks,

The Beaver says: "chunk that yayzoo out onto eBay and get Icom gear"

I have a 746 for my base and have even used it mobile in a full sized pickup. VHF range is 108~174mhz. Its slow tuning mode is 1hz. That's right, single hertz tuning, and will do that on all modes including FM.....plus 100 watts (all mode) to transmit with [40w AM].

Well anyway, good luck

Here is the correct answer to your question:

Go to page 57 of the manual and read "Changing the Channel Steps"
Change to a 12.5 kHz step, program your frequency, and save it to memory.

I don't think that will work on high band. 12.5 channel spacing will only occasionally land on an actual channel by accident. You really need 7.5 spacing to get it right.

Rather than abandon Yeasu, you could upgrade to a more recent model, like the VX-7R or something.

I have a Yaesu FT8800 and I can't stand the usability features of this radio. Throw in the fact that their manuals are garbage and it doesn't help either. I'm looking for another radio to replace this one, so this Yaesu will soon be on e-bay.

Well, you can't do that in any range outside of 2m and 440. When in those ranges, you have to set the step size to 12.5 kHz.

The FT-60 Commander software upholds these rules.

On my yeasu7800r if you enter the freq and it defaults to the rounded up frequency, just turn the vfo knob to tune the freq to narrow band. look in other parts of the manual regarding programming and you may find this info hidden somewhere. SD.

The usual legal warnings

Of course, the first thing to note is that it is entirely illegal for you to use this unit to transmit on that frequency. It's not type accepted for any service using that frequency.

If you want to transmit on commercial channels, you must buy a type accepted radio for those services/frequencies.

Using this radio on that channel subjects you to the potential for fines, AND loss of your ham license as well.

If you merely want to LISTEN, the precise frequency entry isn't all that critical. 'Nearest 5 KHz step' is plenty close enough for that.

I was hoping that we could skip the legal warnings this time through, but oh well.

Anyway, I used to own an FT-60, and while I quite liked the radio, I do concur with the above posts. Try as I might, I couldn't get the FT-60 to accept the 7.5khz spaced channels. The narrow-band option in the manual refers to the transmit/receive bandwidth (2.5khz vs. 5khz), which really has nothing to do with the frequency step sizes that the radio supports.

Yes, perhaps the nearest 5khz might work alright. But it is irritating to have to do it that way.

On an off-topic note, I must concur with teh Beaveh. Icom radios seem to be more flexible in their tuning.

Yaesu's product line doesn't allow for 2.5 kHz frequency stepping that's required for successfully programming narrowband. The lowest their procucts will go is 5.0 kHz. I would love for Yaesu to allow 2.5 kHz frequency stepping, but not sure they ever will.

The DJ-500T/E by ALINCO allows for the 2.5kHz frequency stepping.

I have used chirp and programed in splinter channels . A little hard but worked
You can fool the radio into displaying those but it doesn't really work.
The FT-7800R and probably other Yaesu radios are the same way.
You can program 2.5 kHz steps with programming software and the display will show what you programmed but the actual transmit and receive frequency is rounded to the nearest 5 or 12.5 kHz step. I don't remember if it rounds up or down.
