What is the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network ?? I keep seeing thse words come up. Is it where when a fire fighter is on scene he can send video back to the Fire Station ?? Is it where the police can send a live stream to everyone when he is in a foot chase ?? Could the broadband network be also used to dispatch an officer ?? If so this could kill scanners.

Not likely, theres still lots to hear outside of LAW ops..
and when ive got nada left to hear,,ill start TX'n!!

However,,get accustomed to more and more
LAW agencies going dark,,cities,counties,towns and
other municipalities are steadily going broke and losing
their credit ratings.so with decaying comm systems
the DHS will be happy to turn on the cash flow to any
department that will adopt DHS/federal reg's or protocols
in order to become eligible for that dough..and you cant
blame the PD for taking it,they lovethe new toys,,,

i mean,,doesn't every town with a pop of 12,000 need a
15 member SWAT team and a couple APC's?

i read a while back NYC was looking at implementing
this sort of comm system..

not sure of the reality or progress..

All of those things are being discussed, but as of right now such a network is still a gleam in the eyes of some members of Congress, some corporate types, and a lot of public safety people.

It really wouldn't change what you hear on a scanner. Most places already use some type of Mobile CAD in their cars. What is being proposed would supposedly be more reliable and robust.
