or on 42.840 I have heard Car to Car Action in Alamance and Guilford Area. Right now there is ony a few officers covering districts. They are expected to hire more with the passing of the NC Lottery.

In WNC, ALE is on VHF Lo Right in with NCHP. the only "Officialy" listed frequencies for ALE are NCHP F-17 42.7200 MHZ (ABC Enforcement)
NCHP F-11 42.8400 MHZ (ABC)
NCHP F-12 42.8600 MHZ (ABC)
Of the ALE agents ive seen around town i will say they have the low band radios in their cars but i have never heard traffic on these frequencies or low band for that matter. I have seen them with VHF Hi portables with local law enforcement programmed in and have heard them occasionally there. I assume in the Asheville/Hendersonville areas anyway that they use cell phones more than anything else.

I talked to ALE in Alamance County area. They say they mostily communicate with Nextel right now. But still use the 42.840 for car to car or Walkie to Walkie. and communicate with Dispatch for Regular highway Patrol Channels. You have to be really close to the signal to pick these low band freqs up on car to car or walkie to walkie..

On the Charlotte TRS I hear numbered units with an "ABC" prefix. Are these also ALE units? They show up on whatever TG covers the area they are operating in.

In Western NC, ALE agents would use the same three channel pairs as NCHP uses in Troop G, which should be channels 1 and 2, 9 and 10, and 17 and 18.

42.84 does not have an NCHP channel designator ... that I know of. It is only available to ALE units. NCHP TX channels 11 and 12 would respectively be 42.86 and 42.82 MHz.

42.84 is generally used for tac purposes, although some of the ABC warehouses also have access to this channel. I've heard the Hickory warehouse on occasion. The agents do not have a "dispatch" to work with on 42.84, so they access the NCHP telecommunicators on the local NCHP channels if they need assistance. On low band, they I-D as Nx (x is the ALE district letter), followed by a two digit unit number.

Keep in mind that ALE agents can work some strange hours, due to the typical hours of operation of business establishments they oversee. Many of us have probably enjoyed a REM session or two by the time the ALE agent ends his / her work day.

There is a local level of alchohol beverage control known as ABC separate from ALE.

This link might help explain: http://www.ncabc.com/boards/law.aspx

Statewide Local ABC Commission Enforcement is carried out by a local law enforcement officer designated by the commission to inspect ABC governed establishments within that officers jurisdictions. The ABC offical has the right to conduct onsite inspections without a warrant but only that designated offical another sheriffs deputy or city police officer cannot do a warrantless inspection without a warrant. In any event ABC Commission Officals would use local law enforcement comms. as it would be there own.

I worked in Meck. Co. several years back. At that time, CMPD had several specially trained officers to enforce ABC laws & regs. I don't know if the city or county has added officers paid by the ABC board. If so, that could explain the ABC units being heard by kg4pbd.
