Would anyone have a handy list of their VHF repeaters sites and frequencies? I've put a bunch in the scanner but can't seem to hear the D-11 folks in Wake County nearly as good as I hear the D-6 and D-5 units.

Thanks,

151.3400 should be the one in use for D11. Search the FCC database for that frequency and using a radius search from your point to find the closest sites. I'm seeing sites in Yanceyville, Chapel Hill, Oxford, Oak Hill, & Clayton. Reference KSJ271, WQJD752, & WQJD747 for more details. I imagine the NCFS has quite a few VIPER radios to interop with Wake County and the surrounding area. I know D12 has a few portables down here for Mecklenburg County.

What do you have down for D5 & D6? I need to overhaul the NCFS listing at some point. If anyone can confirm what frequency and tone they're hearing for their respected districts, I'd appreciate it if you posted here.

Here in Rowan County the NCFS is dispatched (for incidents in Rowan) by Rowan communications and have a TG on our system, though it's not used very much. I've heard bits and pieces of traffic on the VHF stuff around here but it seems it becoming less and less, especially with the implementation of VIPER.

We have a farm in Nash county and I hear a lot of traffic on the VHF channels, anytime there's a woods/brush fire the VHF freq is quite active. Also active with daily reports as well.

Since fires are reported through the local 911 systems in NC, NCFS is primarily dispatched through the fire radio systems in all counties. In addition to the NCFS high band radios, rangers have the necessary radios to match the local fire dispatch system in their resident counties (usually county fire), as well as a VIPER radio. Most of their traffic on the NCFS radios will deal with their own logistics regarding fire reports, fire weather, daily duty rosters, and fire responses and equipment logistics, etc.

I know d5 info is accurate like has been said D5 gets paged out by local county and then checks in route to base on on their radio and then gives base the report and if they need any additional equipment.

What does NCFS use VIPER for? Do you know what talkgroups and callsigns they use? I know what they use on their VHF system, just not on VIPER. In District 7 and 13 the NCFS folks are paged out by local VFD depts and use their own radios for logistic purposes.

Thanks a lot

VIPER is rarely used for anything besides administrative duties. All fire ops are in the responsible county's system or the NCFS nets.

A Randolph County Observation and partially quoting the above.
"All fire ops are in the responsible county's system"
In Randolph County's case they are using VIPER with the same VIPER county dispatch and TAC channels as the county fire departments.

As always, your radio mileage may vary!

Just backing up what others have said. In Dare County, NC Forestry (they have two stations here) uses Dare's 800 system for dispatch and comms, and have several operations talkgroups on our system (Though they are rarely if ever used. Usually, they will go to the operations channel of the fire dept district the fire is in since the fire dept is always paged out along with them). They use their VHF tac frequency for larger field operations (such as coordinating equipment on large or prescribed burns). They also check in daily around 8am on the VHF frequency to their district headquarters. I have never heard any of them on VIPER out here, but our county doesn't use VIPER (we just patch to it if needed).
