Just got a new Uniden SDS100 for the Raleigh Area that just migrated to P25. I use Sentinel and have been getting things working. I wanted to scan/monitor Duke Life Flight and NCSHP. Both are on the statewide VIPER system. When I add those two "dept" it loads every county's freq under each one. Of course that takes FOREVER to scan through all 100 counties in NC 2x (1x for HP and 1x for DLF)
Can I delete all the counties from the Favorites list (I can only do 1 at a time, so it's a painstaking process. Before I try to delete ~95% of the counties for BOTH HP and DLF. will this cause me any unintended consequences?
Any help is greatly appreciated
If you are careful, you can selectively append only the 'departments' that you want. However, when appending from the main database. Sentinel will append all of the sites in the system. Neither RR database nor the database in Sentinel have any details as to which talkgroups are carried on any specific site.
There are several trains of thought on how to deal with the excess sites, depending on who you ask. One group will tell you to use location control, and let it disable the out of range sites. Another will suggest setting the extras to "Avoid".
I'm in a third group, and prefer to remove them to unclutter the Favorite list. There are a couple of ways to do that. You can select the sites individually, then hit the Delete key. Or, <right><click> the site, and select 'remove from Favorites list' from the pop-up menu. Either way, you'll get a confirmation pop-up asking if you really do want to delete.
Of course, you can also open your list in the Favorites list editor, and make your deletions via the Edit process.
Either way, you're confronted with a sizeable list of sites, some with names that you don't recognize. Site names might be the name of a specific city or county. But often, they are named after a local landmark or other location not familiar to you. In that case, open the database page for the system:
The sites are listed by name in the section labeled System Frequencies.
Click on the
County header in the list. That will re-sort the list of sites according to the county each is in.
That makes it much easier to determine the sites you actually want,
Since you show to be a Premium Subscriber, if you use software such as ProScan or ARC536 (I prefer ProScan), you can use the web import feature to select only the sites and talkgroups that you want, instead of having to deal with the whole Viper system.
If you want to create a favorites list for your local location, you can use only the Wake Co sites on VIPER. Once you see which talkgroups affiliate with each site, you may want to lockout several of the Wake Co sites to speed up the scanning. I suggest that you click on Report and request that your thread be moved to the North Carolina forum. There are a lot of members in your immediate area who can better answer your questions. They can advise you which Wake Co sites to use on VIPER.
I suspect that the Duke Life Flight talkgroup would show up on any site where they were answering a call.
But someone in the NC state forum might be able to clarify which specific sites carry NCSHP radio traffic.
