OK... It has been a long time since I have played with the BCD536 here in the shack. Usually, just turn it on and listen to what is being said, along with a few other radios here.

I have been missing the NCSHP comms, I know, for about a year or maybe more, but just have not taken time to try and get them back. I went in today to try and can't remember how to get Sentinel to change over to the (apparently) new frequencies without messing up my complete list.

I do seem to remember Marshall(?) explaining how it works....... but can't seem to find it now.

I want to listen to Rowan, Cabarrus and Mecklenburg Counties SHP traffic. I am about halfway between Concord and Salisbury, with an outside antenna, so I can hear both towers equally as well.

All help is greatly appreciated..... I can upload my list that I have now, if someone knows how to turn the SHP comms on so I can put it on a card and get it back into my scanner without me losing what I currently have.

Thanks in advance,

Sam

Ok

SHP now has 5 dispatch centers

1. Elizabethtown dispatches all of the Troop B Counties
2. Raleigh dispatches all of the Troop A, C & D Counties
3. Salisbury dispatches all of the Troop E Counties
4. Newton dispatches all of the Troop F, & G Counties
5. Monroe dispatches all of the Troop H Counties

There was talk at one time of consolidating both Monroe and Salisbury Centers and moving them to

Charlotte. That is the last I have heard.

SHP is simulcast across the Salisbury/Rowan Trunked Radio System

SHP has a talkgroup across the Char/Meck UASI Trunked Radio System.

However this is considered a one way patch meaning you will only hear the dispatch side of the

conversation. You will not hear the cars calling back in.

The best thing to do if you want to listen to SHP both ways is to program your scanner up for the Viper

System 700/800 mhz. frequencies.

This way you will be able to listen to both cars and base talking to each other.

As far as Cabarrus having a talkgroup on the Char/Meck UASI system there isn't one. When Cabarrus

had their own separate 800 MHz, System they had an SHP talkgroup but that system is gone now and so

is the talkgroup.

Hope this helps

David

I guess what I mean is I don't remember how to change all of that. I need to sit down again with the You Tube videos and study it a bit to refresh my memory.

Unless yo or someone has a list of "quick tips" as to how to go about changing it. I did have them in and working, but they did change about 2 years ago or so........

Thanks,

Sam

Ok... created a favorites list... uploaded it to scanner. On the NC Viper system it has ALL of the county sites listed from A - Z. It takes forever to go thru them when scanning... All I care about is Cabarrus, Rowan, and Meck. counties. Upon "Editing a Favorites list" I can't delete the county sites I don't want. In other words, highlight the county name on the left column, and it says I can't delete it. I can highlight the frequencies in the right column and delete them, so is that what I want to do??? After I delete the frequencies from the counties, will it let me delete the county name???

It has been WAY TOO LONG since I messed with this thing......................................................................

Thanks again,

Sam

I'm guessing that the only way to hear both sides (base to car, car to base) on the Salisbury / Rowan TRS, is if the Trooper is using the SHP talkgroup on the county's system. If the Trooper calls Salisbury on the VIPER talk group he's not heard on the county's TRS but the Salisbury base is heard either way.

Is that correct David?

Why can't the car to base side of the transmission from a county's talk group not be simulcast on VIPER?

I went through this a while back. I am near Raleigh and wanted to limit the sites to those around me. This is the way I did it:

Go to NC database and click on your county
Go to bottom and click on the VIPER link
When on the VIPER page, click on "Download" on the right side of page (see pic)
Then click on "Download CSV File of All Sites and Frequencies for Trunked System: North Carolina VIPER" (See Pic)
That will DL an Excel sheet that you can edit and import into Sentinal.

I just sorted by county and took the sites ans frequencies of the counties closest to me and put them into Sentinal.

If you want to get more granular, you can click on each site name and bring up a map of the site and its relative coverage.

Considering that all VIPER sites are already in Sentinel why create more work for yourself?

Just copy the VIPER listing from the main HPDB then either avoid (lockout) or delete the sites not near you. I don't understand the copying the sites & frequencies back into Sentinel when they are already there to begin with

I just found it easier to sort, copy paste into Sentinel instead of scrolling through the list in the DB.
But if you travel around the state, it would be better to LO the sites until you are in range of them. Or if you could take advantage of GPS, that would select sites in range, correct?

Yep. My point was that the sites are already in Sentinel so you can easily sort/copy/paste from what is already there instead of creating more work for yourself by importing external data. :)

What I normally do is have several VIPER Favorites Lists arranged in various ways:
--I have 3 FLs set up with the 3 VIPER RFSS/Zones and the quick keys mapped out to match the site #s.
--I have one FL set up with All VIPER sites statewide to use with the Uniden GPS for trips.
--I have one FL set up with just a few select local Central NC sites.

My point is to use the VIPER info already in the master database instead of creating more headache for yourself :D:)
