I found out that Norfolk southern is changing all there radios to NDNX. Apparently a couple frequency in my area have already. I am a bit confused on how to program them. I live in Lewisburg, Pa.

I left the original "analog" object in the conventional and made a duplicate of that frequency and changed it from FM to NDNX which then changed it to a digital.

I am reading or misreading that NDNX is a trucking system. So I also went and made 2 NDNX truck objects (one for c and one for d as not sure which) then in each site I added all the frequency. Since they don't list a Talk group.

I loaded all to the scanner and I am not hearing anything.

I also did the above to the local Hospital which I found out is DMR.

Any help folks, please.....

Most railroads are being licensed for NXDN but few are actually using it at this time, just because the license has been issued does not mean they are using it. In my area there is a college that held a DMR license for over three years before they started using DMR. The programming looks to be correct.

NXDN (Not NDNX) is a digital modulation scheme. While there are NXDN based trunking systems, what the railroads are using is not trunking. It's simply conventional NXDN.

If you have them loaded in as Type C or Type D trunking, that would be an issue. For trunking, the scanner is going to be looking for control data. Since that's not used on conventional NXDN, that's going to result in you not hearing anything.

And as others said, NXDN is on many of the licenses, but it does not mean that the railroads are using it yet. Traffic may still be analog. Programming the channels in as analog and NXDN conventional is a good idea and should allow you to hear them what ever they are using.

Thanks for everyone's input. I thought that if the license was for NXDN that met that's what they must transmit in. I noticed the transmission is loud and clear but breaks apart like every other word is dropped. The local rail authority on the same frequency is clear and no breaking up but Norfolk southern is choppy. My radio is a Whistler TRX-2 with outdoor Discone antenna mounted 25 feet in the air.

I think if you look closely at the license, you'll see they retained their analog emission designators. It'll show something like 11K0F3E.

You'll find, with every railroad I've seen get a new NXDN license, they either get a new license with just the NXDN designator (and still maintain the old license), or modify the existing license to add the new NXDN designator along with analog as @mmckenna said above,
