• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

First post. I'm looking for the Kenwood KPG-111D (AAR) railroad specific software for an NX-210 radio. I've been trying to find a vendor that can supply it, but all vendors I've talked to have no idea where to find it, and Kenwood themselves has been unwilling to assist me. Can anyone point me in the right direction? This seems to be a very elusive program. Thanks.

To add a bit of context...

KD4EFM is a member here who is quite knowledgeable and is a dealer for Kenwood.
Search out his username and send him a message.

... my understanding is the AAR version of KPG-111D(N) is released by Kenwood to only an authorized employee of a railroad company communication department and is not to be made available to private individuals or two way radio shops.

So you are looking for someone to illegally pirate software that unless you are a railroad you really don't need...
When did I say that? I said I was looking for lead for a proper source. I don't think I like your accusatory attitude.

Kenwood states only railroads can buy that software. I do not think a dealer will risk a dealership over a few dollars
I'm still trying to figure out how "I'm looking for a lead on a legitimate source for this difficult to locate software that nobody I've talked to seems to know anything about" translates to "I'm looking for an illegally pirated copy".

I did not say pirate I said you are not a railroad and a dealership can lose a dealership for breaking Kenwoods rule. Go back and read my post no where did I say pirate. John I can sell you a legal copy but you do not meet the qualifications. Per my Kenwood representative.

If it's limited to Railroads only therefore its not available to the public you are asking someone to provide software that is not generally available for your use. You don't have to like my attitude.. It's the truth If you were to obtain it not being properly qualified to have it that would mean you illegally obtained it.

At the time of my original post, I had not known that it's distribution was so restricted like that. I just knew that nobody I had spoke to had any knowledge of it, and was looking for a way to legally obtain it. Since it's now obvious that's not possible, then please disregard the request. I'll just stick to the conventional firmware/software.

I do not need or want a copy of it BUT am curious.... What does it do that the standard 111 software doesn't do?

So enquiring minds gotta know, If a guy were to stumble across a radio that has been programmed with the AAR software can it simply be overwritten with the regular KPG-111D software for regular radio use? or is there a firmware component that's also involved?
There was a railroad NX-210 that popped up in the local classifies the other day....
No charger, no charge, engraved everywhere...

You just load the latest firmware into it and 111 will work fine.

If one were to legitimately acquire one of these radios could they use the commonly available software (non-railroad restricted version) to program it? Are there any capabilities that the restricted software provides that the non-restricted version does not?
