Greetings:

I'm trying to update the firmware in my recently purchased BCD325P2.

So far, I've downloaded and installed the BC_VUP3 "firmware updater for DMA scanners." Uniden's instructions now call for me to "run the utility and follow the on-screen prompts to select the scanner model and firmware version to apply," but it's not clear to a less-than-sophisticated computer user like me exactly how to complete this step.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Have you installed the driver for the scanner on your PC? If so, simply connect the scanner to the PC, run the SW, and do what it says.

Hello again, Voyager.

I'm trying to update the firmware again for the BCD325P2.

In your previous message to me, you asked if I'd installed the driver for the scanner on my PC? By that, do you mean the "BC_VUP_V3"?

I believe I've successfully downloaded and installed BC_VUP_V3 on my PC, but nothing happens when I connect my scanner to the PC and trying running it again.

Suggestions?

UPDATE to Voyager:

I've checked again, and yes, I've successfully downloaded the driver for the BCD325P2. That's what it took for me to connect with the ARC-XT software last week. The driver shows up on my control panel under "Device Manager" under "Ports (COM and LPT)" as "Uniden Serial Port (COM 7)."

I've downloaded and unzipped the "BC_VUP_V3" on my desktop, but I don't know what to do next.

Thanks for your patience and help!

Install the program, run the program, then follow the prompts.

Hello, Paul. Thanks for responding!

Please forgive my lack of computer skills, but what and where, exactly, is the "the program"? Is this the same thing that's referred to as "the utility" in Uniden's online instructions?

I've installed the BCD325P2 driver (and was able to successfully connect the scanner to the ARC-XT software after I discovered I had version 1.8 and needed version 2.0 for this radio). In a effort to update the firmware, I've downloaded and installed (perhaps incorrectly) the BC_VUP3 firmware updater.

At present, I'm not seeing anything that looks like a firmware update or options that would enable me to find one. There's a pdf file with some very detailed programming information in the firmware updater file, but that's not helping either.

Per Voyager's guidance, I've connected the scanner to my computer before, during, and after installation (and re-installation) of the firmware updater, but again, I'm not seeing anything that looks like a firmware update or the path to one.

Please forgive my lack of computer expertise. I've just retired from a job that required constant computer use, but for security reasons, we weren't permitted to install, fix, or modify software. There may be other scanner enthusiasts out there that share my computer challenges.

I've had my issues with the BCD436HP, but I love its ease of access to firmware updates and programming!

The 325 is so far proving to be a better rf performer in my listening environment than the 436, so I'd really like to learn how to connect it to my home pc. FYI, I didn't have these connectivity issues with either my 396T or 396XT.

Thanks again for your help and patience!

Have you tried running the BC_VUP3 program? If it's properly installed, it should run. From there it's just a matter of following the prompts.

Hi, Voyager.

Yes, I've tried running the BC_VUP3 program, but nothing happens-no prompts, no directions, etc.

I'll try installing it again tomorrow. I was pretty certain I'd installed it correctly because when I tried re-installing it again today, I was prompted to decide whether I wanted to "repair" or "remove" it (I opted to "repair" it). Next time, I'll try starting all over again by first removing it.

Thanks for your help and patience.

You may need to run it in Administrator mode depending on your version of Windows.

Success!

Voyager, Paul, et al:

I've successfully updated the firmware in my new BCD325P2.

My mistake was looking for something to appear on the computer's desktop. The updater utility/program was located in the Uniden folder on the computer "C" drive. Once located and opened, the application (correct terminology?) updated the firmware version quickly and easily.

As I used to tell my staff, "If I can understand it, anyone can!"

Thanks for your help and patience.

If those instructions are anything like the instructions for installing the Firmware for the BCT15X, they should get re-written for us "less than sophisticated computer users".

If anyone needs clarification as to what I'm talking about, see post #21 here: http://forums.radioreference.com/uniden-tech-support/302627-bct15x-latest-firmware-2.html.

And the next post in that link, #22, has Voyager confirming how confusing it is.....

I completely know where you're coming from kc5igh. The good thing here is, you're not the problem......

Frequency Loader?

Greetings,
Thank you guys for the prompt answers to my first question. Now, I have another question... :^)

I had a BC75XLT and it had a loader program that made it so easy to get the frequencies from the scanner and to put frequencies on the scanner. It made it very easy to load different frequencies, in different banks. My question: Is there a 'loader' type of program for the BCD325P2?

Again, thanks in advance,
David
