• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Those aren't Center freqs, I'm afraid, those are locally used airports, for the most part. What he is talking about are frequencies found here...

New York (ZNY) Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

What is an ARTCC? Good question, that...

ARTCC - The RadioReference Wiki

Which are closest to him in Chester County? I'd take a stab at Barnegat, Matawan, Millville and Ship Bottom in NJ, then Big Flat, Modena and Lancaster in Pa.

You can find this out for yourself by clicking on the little arrow next to the name of the RCAG, then click on 'View Subcategory Details'. That should bring up a map with boundaries of the coverage (I don't exactly know where those boundaries come from, but the transmitter location is almost as good).

I'm assuming here that you have an antenna outdoors, nice and high, and free from obstructions. Such an antenna would be quite likely to hear aircraft from a long ways checking in from these and other sites.

Best Regards..Mike

The boundaries are actually pulled from FAA data and is actually called the service radius. Not the same thing as the sector, but very usefull for frequency mgmt of this spectrum, and a usefull indication of where the transmitter is supposed to he effective. The radioref database for ZNY is very accurate and up to date.:)
