It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. Hey guys, I need some help on buying a antena and if I really need one and I know nothing about antennas. Now my town is 800mhz and the area is about 40 miles. I always listen in town but I feel like I'm not getting the most of my scanner. It seems to break up and isn't very clear sometimes and especially when I'm driving.

I have the At218 antenna. Do you guys suggest another?

Thanks for any help!

Well 40 miles is really pushing it for an 800 MHZ. system. They are not designed to have that kind of range.

I suggest a mobile antenna for the frequency range that the system uses.

I use a Laird Phantom antenna which works very well in my situation but I don't need a 40 mile range.

One of the two Larsen antennas linked below should work well (note the frequency differences).
