can you use an hf cb whip antenna with a vhf car radio or will it damage it

If you are just monitoring then it would not hurt the radio, but transmitting would be another story. The antenna would not be resonant and cause High SWR at the radio. This will destroy the final amplifiers so don't transmit unless it is tuned to the frequency you want to use.
